quotes & cocktails

@simplystylistxo
 *sigh*
A good reminder this Wednesday.

The cocktails we want to highlight today are found here. They all have basil in them...we love the incorporation of fresh herbs, and other unique items, in cocktails. What is your favorite herb to add to a cocktail?

quotes & cocktails

quotes

We love the quotes that are currently printed on the coffee sleeves at Starbucks. Oprah certainly has some inspirational thoughts/quotes. And the cocktails for this week are...

And, as it is the month of June and Father's Day is just around the corner, our cocktails this week are cocktails every guy should know how to make (at least according to this).

Brit Week

Brit Week
Brit week (which runs in Los Angeles from April 21st to May 4th) is dedicated to celebrating the relationship between the US and Great Britain. This event also takes place in San Francisco, Orange County and Miami. A couple of our favorite art items -that are Brit week appropriate- from Etsy are above. Links to the lovely artists and their Etsy pages are below.

And keeping in theme...let's make some scones & strawberry jam!
I used the scone and strawberry jam recipes from this lovely book. This tea party book is perfect for creating, planning and hosting an appropriate British tea party. For the scones; instead of milk, I used honey Noosa yogurt...amazing! This website helped me with conversions. This website helped me determine oven temperature. How cute are the mushroom measuring spoons? While no longer available, Anthropologie has others.

the planning continues

grown-up party ideas
...there are other tasks to tend to.

 Ideas for the signature cocktail
** Champagne Bar: prefect for the cream, silver & peaches- themed gathering (recipes & how-to via Mint Love Social Club).

** Mint Love Julep: for the peach & mint-themed gathering (recipe via Mint Love Social Club).

** DIY Cocktail Station: we love the gold details on this DIY cocktail station. Perfect for the black, white & gold theme! (recipe & how-to via Hostess with the Mostess).

** A Fall Themed Cocktail Station: although it may be wintertime, we love the fall season and feel that this theme can blend with a winter themed-party quite nicely (recipes & how-to via Waiting on Martha).

...of course, one can always hire a mixologist.

Must haves for the menu
** DIY Crostini station: who doesn't love crostinis? Find a sweet & savory station at thekitchn

** Tapas: a tapas menu from The Fresh Market. How delicious do mini brie tarts with lemon curd sound?! yum.

** Simply party food ideas from Martha herself.

...of course, one can always cater. How delicious & fresh does the food from Kitchen 12000 look? (for those in SoCal) and the food from The General Store (for those in NorCal) is amazing!!!

Clever ways to capture the evening's memories
** DIY Photo Booth: with mustaches of course (how-to & details at Made+Remade).

** An Instagram Photo Booth: a clever costume idea from Glitter N' Glue; it could also by used for a photo booth and people can hold cardboard hashtags!

Each picture is taken twice with a polaroid camera. One photo is given to the guest and the other, put in a photo album for the birthday girl (we mean birthday grown-up). In addition to this guest favor, these are also cute!

#1.) Creative (and inexpensive) ways to wrap gifts!
#2.) Creative ways to decorate with pumpkins here. While some only associate pumpkin with October/Halloween (pumpkin latte's should really be year round), we associate pumpkins with November/Thanksgiving as well.
#3.) Creative & clever drinks for the aspiring mixologist can be found here. It would be nice to have a signature beverage for the parties you are hosting this holiday season.
#4.) Twenty nice things to do over the holiday season (and all the time!) here.
#5.) Proof cuddle time is good for your health here.
