I used the almond milk recipe from here.
Step one: soak raw almonds for 24 hours.
Step two: rinse almonds and put one cup in blender.
Step three: add two cups of cold water (the ratio is 1 cup of almonds:2 cups of water) and blend.
Step four: pour blended mixture via a cheese cloth draped over a strainer.
Step five: squeeze the cheesecloth to ensure all liquid drains into the bowl.
...and to finish, pour almond milk in jars and store in the refrigerator.
You can add some drops of vanilla to flavor your almond milk, as well as clover honey and lavender!

p.s. If you have not been to the Grand Central Market in awhile, I highly recommend you take a day trip to downtown LA. This Market, which has a lovely view on Angel's Flight from one side (aka. 500 Days of Summer), has been going through some major gentrification. While you can still get the delicious Mexican and Chinese food (staples that our mom remembers enjoying as a kid), you can now also get high-end coffee from G&B, gooey egg sandwiches from EggSlut and a delicious cheese platter from DTLA Cheese.
p.s.s. I went to the Grand Central Market after participating in CicLAvia. A free event that happens multiple times throughout the year in which certain streets of LA are closed down (it changes each time) and people can bike/walk/run, according to their preference. This is a fun way to explore the city and exercise! The next one is October 5th. Save the date! More details can be found here. Below are some pictures from past CicLAvia events.
Great post, Megan! Have you tried making the macadamia milk? Is it the same process?
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for visiting out blog. The process is the same but the ratio different. It is 1 cup of macadamia to 7 cups of water.
